Totem Arts is about to "uncook" Renegade X, making it around 2x larger in filesize but allowing it to be updateable with a patcher instead of full install as well as individual map installing. This means mapmakers can make maps, apply them to a server, and everyone can run them.

If anyone is familiar with Unreal Development Kit mapmaking, this is for you!

True, because it is only a hundred person game at any time, about a thousand active players a day? Not a whole lot. But. Beta 4 is when the game will be uncooked, as well as maps added, and new mechanics like smoke grenades to block base defences from firing, and emp nades to disarm groups of proxy mines. So popularity should spike. Also, the game regularly get's mentioned in gameinformer and other websites. So maybe Beta4 or whenever they successfully somehow get it on steam, will be the day it shoots up in visibility.

However, Kenz3001 is making a RenX map in UDK on his youtube in videos. It is sort of a how-to for interested mappers. So they are hoping to get some modders and content makers in their playerbase and breathe longevity into the game. I think it is a good idea.

Mapping modding and hours of fun gameplay are why the original lasted so long, X is only missing the first two. Can't wait!

They just released beta4 today, and are working on releasing a functioning SDK. Again, it is unreal-based, but with the open source assets to the game, you could create new gamemodes or game spinoffs using the tools provided. As well of course as maps and skins and junk. Although skins are based on the version and not the client so not everyone can have their own skin.
